coloured absinthesis by Paula-Rosa coloured absinthesis by Paula-Rosa
This is only a part of a coloured version of my last submission " Absinthesis". I'm still working on it and I intend to draw the background too. What I want to know is what do you think of the sexy creature there. She has big blue eyes and red hair. Want to meet her? :D

My tools were coloured pencils, a photo for the background (just for this submission), photoshop and... absinth.

No bailado azul do céu.

Um olhar quase ausente
Uma tormente vencida
A verdade escondida
Na loucura da história demente…

Ausência nas cores circunscritas
Em traços livres e soltos
E, no céu dançam verdades prescritas

This is a very interesting peice, I really love the detail and colour done to the object.
Though is the over-use of negative space intended?

I think it is the only draw back.

Thank you very much.
It's not finished yet. I must work on it someday, maybe.
Yes, the negative space there was intended.
Thank you for your thoughts. Much appreciated.

I'm having to hold off my anticipation to look at the B&W (I came across this first) in order to take the time to comment here because this is excellent. I've always noted a sort of unjustified taboo against pencil colours - but when they're in skilled hands, it gives this natural texture to a piece that just can't be substituted with digital. I love the level of detail in the shading and texturing, and I can't help but wonder how large this piece is in real life considering how fine some of these lines are! Only suggestions/critiques are as follows:
1. the optic nerve/hair thing that goes behind the eye doesn't seem to have the same line-work detail the front one's do. Maybe it's just the colour, but it just doesn't seem as crisp to me. I'm also a little confused, now that I look at that area more closely, about the light source... the shadows seem confusing behind the eyeball - but maybe that's just me (=
2. The spiky dendrite/axon/arm-thingy... I guess what I would call the 'wrist' seems off.
Ok - those are my extremely picky critiques *grin* But before I wrap up, my most important comment is: wow! I think what gets me most about this isn't the technical stuff- but the conceptual side of it. The creature, the flow, the construction and the biology elements all come together so... naturally (how ironic). It's just perfect! Ok - I'm done (=

Hello!
Thank you very much for the wonderful comment.
Yes, I agree, coloured pencils gives an amazing texture. I've tried it with the tablet but it's not the same. No way!
This drawing was made in A3. It has 29,5cm x 42cm.
I just gave up submiting this kind of drawings to DA. Most of the texture disappears with the digitalization process. My scanner is really bad. The original looks so different (texture and the colours).
The line-work is exactly the same. I guess it has to do with the fact that I had to clean it in Photoshop. My scanner added some green marks to it (exactly in that areas). How I hate scanners, specially mine. ;)
Thank you very much.

That's an interesting question. You really made me think about it. Must thank you for that too.
I'm almost sure the correct answer is: the consciousness of a subconscious world. Also a real passion for it. ;)

Thats cool. I know what you mean. Theres that point where in your dreams you can hit the record button and record what your seeing. Also things will sometimes seep through into the conscious world from the subconscious world. Whats cool about you is you can see these things and then draw them. I'll see stuff and try try try to get it to appear on my computer screen but to know avail. Oh well...I keep trying. Well please keep drawing and I'll always be here to see'em.

No problem...I guess those couple years in Phycology paid off. :w00t!: So what other types of Hobbies do you have. Play any instrments or anything like that. That motivates me at times. I dont know why realy. But I'll be playing my guitar, writing or something, and I'll all the sudden feel like drawing. So, I dont know. While I was doing thatt planet thing I played my guitar a lot more. Which is cool, I definatly need the practice. Well thanks for the encouragment, look foward to hearing from you.

That's great. I play guitar too (electric and acoustic). I'm a failure! ;) I like it very much, though. Unfortunately I have a job (I work as a designer) and I don't have much time to practice. I write poetry. It seems we have similar hobbies.
Those activities motivate me too.
And, "hidden" is a great wallpaper.
Keep it up!
Thank you, Phil!

Thats great that you like the guitar. Iv'e been playing, or i should say, trying to play, for about 2 to 3 years. I have an a electric and a acoustic.. I primarly play my acoustic though.
I think its awsome that you actully get to this for a living. I work at Safeway which is a large nation wide chain of grocery stores in the US. It pays the bills. Theres a dude that works at a bank thats in my store and he has a web desighn business and has a bunch of contracts that he hasn't even begun to work on. He asked me to do some graphic work for him. That'll be cool if that works out.
Thanks for liking "hidden". Im working on another one now. When I have the time. Well I gots to go get ready for work. Thanks again. Talk to you later.

Phil
